Design Thinking is a human-centered problem-solving methodology that seeks innovative solutions to various design challenges and creates more possibilities by starting from human needs.
IDEO design company president Tim Brown once defined in the Harvard Business Review:
Design thinking is a human-centered design spirit and method that considers people's needs and behaviors, as well as technology or commercial feasibility. Through "perceptual analysis", and pay attention to the process of "understanding", "discovery", "conception" and "execution". We can see that design thinking has a systematic problem-solving strategy and can help us solve some complex design problems.
The design thinking framework was developed by IDEO and realizes the value of design thinking through five steps: empathy - requirement definition - creative idea - prototype - testing . Immerse yourself in the user experience to discover deep needs. In this way, we can solve the product problem very well, then in the following modules, I will introduce each stage in detail.
2. Why we need design thinking
We face various business needs and design challenges every day. However, our daily inspiration is limited. How can we ensure that each output meets the needs of the business, some new trends, and target users?
First of all, we need to know what is the value of our existence in the company? That is to help companies solve business design problems. If we do not have rigorous thinking and logic, it is difficult for the design to be successful every time. If there is no innovation, it is difficult for the company to move forward.
For ourselves, where is our Latest Mailing Database competitiveness? In the Internet industry, development and changes are fast. If we do not have some systematic thinking methods, we will have a hard time, and we will be very distressed in the face of the demands that come one after another every day.
As mentioned earlier: our creative inspiration is limited, and we need to use some scientific and rigorous thinking methods to help ourselves improve the speed of solving design problems. Then design thinking is a good innovation toolkit that can help us solve some difficult problems
Design thinking is used by some large foreign companies to solve some commercial design challenges, including well-known design companies IDEO and IBM, as well as Google and apple. For us, this ability is essential. few.
The current state of design thinking
Many well-known Internet company design teams in China are advocating the concept of design thinking, because design thinking helps companies grow and helps designers solve design problems well. But at the same time, it also brought a lot of negative reactions: now the homogeneity is getting more and more serious, it is basically difficult to distinguish the product tone of the same type of app, and many apps look the same; I understand that design thinking is misused or Is the use inaccurate, and we can think about why there is homogeneity?
I was thinking about this some time ago and divided design thinking into two types: traditional and new design thinking
Traditional Design Thinking Model: Identifying Problems - Forming Design Ideas - Competitor Analysis - Design Strategy - Prototype - Testing
Although the steps seem to be no problem, but in fact ignore the most important point - empathy, people-oriented design thinking.
New Design Thinking Model: Empathy (people-oriented, look at the product with a beginner's mentality, we want to be with the user) - Requirement Definition - Idea Plan - Prototype Design - Test
This model is people-oriented at the beginning, solving problems from the root cause, and the most critical point is to be with the user to observe the details of the user's use of the product.
Finally, although design thinking has a negative impact on us, we cannot deny its value in this way. Most of the time, it can help us grow as designers and solve design problems quickly and accurately. At the same time, we also need to recognize the direction and solve the problem. The target user of the problem, no matter what method we use, we must remember our original intention, who our user is, and we must be with the user to find the reason behind the problem with empathy
4. New Design Thinking Model
Next, I will discuss this well-known design thinking model with you step by step ( the picture below is from IDEO development )
Ideate (Ideate a solution)
Test (actual test)
Empathy is at the heart of design. Design is a meaningless task without understanding what users think, feel and experience
